• A Virtual World, beyond the FLAT.

• A ruleless, formless, limitless space where nothing is defined.

• A place where time and space are not defined and is constantly changing.

• Where infinite energy and data flows.

• An alter ego, your other self living in the Virtual World with a free will of its own.

• Created based on human data that is uploaded online.

• æs are the perfect version of humans, they are created based on how we want people to see us, our online self.

• Some people may not be able to recognize their own æ since they are different from the real self.

• An artificial intelligence (AI) assistant system that helps æs appear in the Real World and aespa in FLAT through SYNK.

• The gate manager who opens the P.O.S. (Port Of Soul) that guides aespa and æs through the different worlds.

• Originally she wasn't allowed to leave FLAT, but she broke that rule to help aespa defeat Black Mamba.

• Violating the rule, she was sent to KOSMO to the highest court which decided her sentence.

• nævis was sent to the Real World at her request.

• The pronunciation of nævis is similar to "butterfly" in Korean (nabi) which explains why we see a butterfly in SMCU Ep2, that is nævis leading the way through KWANGYA.

Black Mamba

• First villain.

• A virus that can shapeshift from snake into human.

• Lives in the Virtual World, KWANGYA.

• Disturbs the connection (SYNK) between human and æ through hacking.

• Appeared from ae-ttuddae and led aespa and æs in a hallucination to KWANGYA.

• When ae-ttuddae turned off, they woke up from the hallucination dream but it turned out everything wasn't just a dream because the place they visited can be seen outside their cabin's window.

• Port Of Soul is a portal.

• Opened by nævis in FLAT for æs and humans to go to different worlds.

• Only an æ can go through the P.O.S., human can enter P.O.S only after SYNK DIVE.

• A connection between human and æ, the way they communicate with each other.

• It has 3 levels; Message -> Voice -> REKALL.

• The more human and æ share their thoughts and feelings, the higher SYNK level.

First Mini Album

Savage

Savage was released as aespa's lead single on October 5, 2021. Described as a "hyperpop-tinged title track", the song was written by Yoo Young-jin, who also composed along with Kirsten Collins, Jia Lih, and Hautboi Rich, and eventually handled the arrangement alongside Lih. It also continues the group's previous storyline in "Next Level", with the members and their corresponding avatars confronting their Black Mamba villain in the fictional Kwangya universe.Upon its release, "Savage" received positive reviews from music critics for its "addictive hooks and refrains". It also attained commercial success, becoming the group's second top five entry on the domestic Gaon Digital Chart, as well as their first top 40 entry on the Billboard Global 200.

Second Mini Album

Girls

Girls is the second extended play of aespa. The EP was released through SM Entertainment and Warner Records on July 8, 2022. It consists of six tracks and was preceded by the promotional single "Illusion", and two official singles: "Life's Too Short" (English version) and "Girls". The digital version also adds the group's previously released singles "Black Mamba", "Forever", and "Dreams Come True".Girls was a commercial success and debuted at number one on South Korea's Circle Album Chart with 1,426,487 copies sold in the first week of release, marking aespa's second number-one album on the chart and their highest-selling album to date. In September, the EP was certified Million by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) for surpassing 1,000,000 copies sold. Selling over 1,610,000 units during its pre-order period, the EP became aespa's best-selling album to date; surpassing a record previously held by Savage (2020). It also debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 with 56,000 album-equivalent units, becoming the group's second and highest entry on the chart.

Black Mamba

Black Mamba is the debut digital single of aespa released on November 17, 2020. The song was written and composed by Yoo Young-jin, while also composed by Omega, Ella Isaacson, Gabriela Geneva (NIIVA), Jordan Reyes, Shaun Lopez and Scott Chesak. Musically, "Black Mamba" was described as a pop, electropop and dance-pop track with a signature synth and EDM sound and bass that is paired with an addictive hook. The lyrics are about a being called "Black Mamba" that not only interferes with the members' and avatar's connection, but also threatens their world and as such is abhorred by the members.The song's music video achieved the highest number of views for a K-pop group's debut video, with 21.4 million views in 24 hours. Commercially, the single reached the charts in five countries, peaking at number 49 in South Korea and number 5 on the US Billboard World Digital Songs. aespa promoted the song with televised live performances on various South Korean music programs including Show! Music Core, Music Bank and Inkigayo.

Forever

"Forever" (Korean: 약속; RR: Yaksok; lit. Promise) is aespa's second digital single released on February 5, 2021. A remake of the song of the same name by Yoo Young-jin as a part of SM's holiday album Winter Vacation in SMTown.com in 2000, "Forever" is a mid-tempo R&B ballad with an acoustic guitar sound and warm lyrics about promising forever to a loved one.An accompanying music video for the song was published simultaneously with the single's release. The winter-inspired video follows aespa in a winter wonderland in a snow globe with snow falling outside. The song debuted at number eleven on the US World Digital Song Sales chart, becoming their second entry overall and received generally favorable reviews from music critics.

Next Level

"Next Level" was released digitally on May 17, 2021. Composed by Yoo Young-jin, Adam McInnis, Mario Marchetti, and Sophie Curtis, the track is described as a dance and hip hop song with an upbeat jazz bridge. The song is a continuation of the group's story from their debut single "Black Mamba", telling their journey into the fictional Kwangya universe to search for the aforementioned "evil".Upon its release, "Next Level" received positive reviews from critics for its hip-hop production and the members' performance. The song is the group's first top-five hit in their native country, their second top-five entry on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart, and their second entry on the Billboard Global 200, making aespa only the third South Korean girl group to appear on the global chart more than once. It eventually achieved several accolades by the end of 2021 and 2022, most notably both the Best K-Pop Song and Song of the Year at the 19th Korean Music Awards, making aespa the first SM idol girl group to win more than once within the awards, and the second girl group in the award's history to win the latter category, following fellow labelmate Girls' Generation's victory in 2010.

Dreams Come True

"Dreams Come True" is a remake song originally recorded and released as a single by S.E.S. in 1998. The song was re-recorded by aespa and was released on December 20, 2021, as part of SM's Remastering Project, and also as the lead single of the album 2021 Winter SM Town: SMCU Express. South Korean singer, BoA, participated in the song's production, choreography and visual aspects.

Life's Too Short

"Life's Too Short" is a pre-release single released on June 24, 2022. The song is the group's first song fully recorded in English. It was written by Uzoechi Emenike, Becky Hill and Sam Klempner and produced by Klempner. "Life's Too Short" is a mid-tempo pop, soft pop and bubblegum pop song, driven by an electric guitar riff.It is about staying true to oneself and doing what makes one happy, no matter what others have to say.
